KAITANGATA.

SHOOTING. On Saturday afternoon under weather conditions which were decidedly unfavorable to good scoring the Kaitangata Defence Kifle Club fired off in the match for the second series of prizes donated. The supply of ammunition luckily held out to the end of the match, but, before any further matches can be fired off, the club's magazine will require to be replenished. Following is the result of Saturday's match:— 300 600 yds. yds. Hep Tl. Rifleman W. D. Carson 29 30 3 62 „ J. A. Anderson 32 22 7 61 ~ G. W. Frazer 29 29 2 60 „ W. The Kaitangata Horticultural and Industrial Society's Rose Show, to be held on the 11th inst. should be the means of showing to the public generally the vast strides made in the culture of the queen of flowers in this district. So far the continued high winds and cold rains have been against growers but with a much needed change to calm bright weather there is yet time to bring forward a good collection of blooms. Many new varieties have been introduced by eoine growers, while those varieties already well and favorably known have been more extensively cultivated. While the electors of Kaitangata will poll heavily for the Labor-Liberal candidate, Mr C. R. Smith, it is generally admitted by that gentlemen's supporters that the Hon. .lames Allen will retain his seat for Brui'e. by a very substantial majority. Meanwhile the date of the election draws nearer and the fervor of the two opposing factions steadily grows. Lively times are predicted as the various returns are made public. The water or beer question is decidedly tame.
