TWELFTH OF JULY.
IN BALCLUTHA. The Balclutha Orange Lodge, strengthened by friends from Lawrence, Milton and Kaitangata, paraded for .divine service to the Balclutha Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. The Balclutha Brass Baud was in attendance, and altogether the parade, with the good attendance of men, and their Orange colours, and the fine music, made a good show. In his address the Rev. Mr Currie spoke on "Protestantism," and said that though protesters against error and against abuses, their creed was positive and warm and life-giving. The Reformation he said, was born in a revival, and made much of what they believed to be the New Testament way ! of life, and of the Bible as the people's Book, and, they should not be ashamed, as some were, of being called Protestants. They had still their mission in the world, and it was for them to heartily prosecute it. Orangeism stood for the great principles of Protestantism, and he (the speaker) wished it well. The service concluded with a verse of the National Anthem, Orangemen all the world over, as Mr Currie said, being loyal subjects.
