CLINTON V. GORE. The first match between Clintou and the Gore Club was jjlayed ou the latter'« courts on Saturday. The Gore Club had a strong team out, the result being that Clinton suffered their first defeat for two seasons. This club has had an unbeaten record for the last 12 matches, but the thirteenth match proved, though not a matter of bad luck owing to the unlucky number, the first break in their chain of successful matches. On the play the Gore Club was decidedly tho stronger team, the ladies being eon* sidered as strong as any quartette in Southland. The play Was of a very high standard, and in practically every set players were fully extended, and although there was a difference of 36 games the Clinton Club was satisfied that it had put up a very creditable performance, and being hospitably treated by the Gore Club had a very enjoyable afternoon's play.
