PERSONAL.
On making inquiries last evening we were informed that Mr John McGuffog is progressing remarkably well in the Dunedin Hospital, and that his condition has much improved. Mrs Fuell, proprietress of the. Bridge Hotel, Kaitangata, will in future conduct that house, Mr H. Clements, who has occupied it for the past four years, retiring into private life. Mr W. A. Blair, of Tuapeka Mouth, has taken over the late Mr Taggart's farm at Blackburn, and intends going in for sheep-farming. Miss Henderson, who has been teacher at Tuapeka Mouth for about a year, left last week, and has been succeeded by Miss Wood,..qf Dunedin. Miss Henderson is retiring from the profession. The Otago Daily Times has the following reference to Mr Parr, the new first assistant at the Balclutha District High School: —"On Monday afternoon, in the Moray Place School, an interesting function took place, the occasion being the departure of Mr Cuthbert Parr, second. assistant on the school staff. The headmaster, on behalf of tho teachers and pupils, presented Mr Parr with a very fine rug, and in doing so spoke very warmly of Mr Parr's strong sense of duty, his consistency of character, and the esteem in which he was held by teachers and scholars alike. Mr Magnus Thomson, first assistant, also referred to the very pleasant relations existing between Mr Parr and the rest of the staff. The good wishes of the school committee were expressed by the chairman and the secretary. The ceremony ended with hearty cheers by the children."
