SUPREME COURT.

JOHN MILLAR ACQUITTED. (By Telephone.) Dunedin, Monday, o p.m. At the Supreme Court, sittings at Duneitin to-day a "true bill" was brought in in the case of John Millar, farm labourer, Hillend, charged with having, on December 17, at Hillend, committed an unnatural offence. Accused, who was committed for trial at the -Balclutha Police Court on January S, was represented by Messrs R. JR. Grigor and W. G. Hay (Dunedin), and pleaded not guilty. The court was cleared during the hearing of -the case. Mr J. F. M. Fraser, Crown Prosecutor, conducted the prosecution. Evidence was given by Wm. HenryJames, farmer, Hillend, Mrs James and Constable Harvey. The first witness was cross-examined by Mr Hay, and Mrs James by Mr Grigor. Constable Harvev was not cross-examined by counsel. Mr Hay addressed the jury on behalf of accused for about, twenty minutes, and after a brief retirement a verdict of "Not guilty" was returned.
