BALCLUTHA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Baldutha Borough Conned was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening, whim then' were present—His Worship the Mavor (Mr-F. J. Boyd) and Crs. A. E. Bragg. J as. Clark, A. McF.wan, C. E. Naish. A. IT. Poulter, T. Redding, Geo. Smith, J. Wilkins and ti. W. Wood. Correspondence.
A. S. Malcolm, M.P., forwarded copy i of Town Planning Act 1911, to com<| , into operation on March 1, lyi-J.—Re-ceived. Secretary T. E. Taylor Memorial Committee forwarded subscription list and asked for assistance.—To be left at Town Clerk's ollice for convenience of those wishing to contribute, Govt. Accident. Insurance Department wrote asking for renewal of accident policy.—To be renewed. Messrs I). Stewart and Son advised that ,CI!K{ 18/6 had been remitted from the State Guaranteed Advances Ollice on the Waterworks Loan. The amount was made up as follows—On account of loan of £7500, £SOO ; less >, per cent, commission £2 10/, and certilicate £1 Jl/G; total £195 18/6.- Received. I'. and I). Duncan, Christchurch, quoted for horse and street broom, 7ft machine with shafts but no front wheels £lB 10/, with front wheels £2 10/ extra ; 9ft Jin machine with front wheels and able to sweep up channels, £55. After some discussion a motion by Crs. Bragg and Smith that a 9ft 4in machine be procured on a guarantee, was carried by 6 to 3, against an amendment by Crs. Clarke and Poulter that nothing be done in the matter at present. Major-General Godloy wrote asking council for use of any hall, room, or shed for drill purposes at a peppercorn rental. —To be informed that the lialclutha Borough had no hall suitable for drill purposes. Mrs Purvis (who waited ony.he council in person) wrote asking for reduction in rent of her borough lease at corner of Lanark and Paisley streetsReserves committee to report at next meeting. Finance. The Council approved of estimates for; current year as laid on the table by the finance committee. The following accounts were passed for pavment—G. W. The transfer of borough lease from Miss Johnston to Mrs McVicar was approved. The Mayor reported that Gas Co. could supply 10 barrels of tar at 21/ if council provided barrels ; this was much cheaper than they could import it for.—On the motion of Cr. Bragg, seconded by Cr. Poulter. it was decided to order 10 barrels for delivery as required. The Borough Engineer forwarded the plan in connection with lowering the grade oo Rosebunk hill, bujt it was re-
ferred back to works committee for further information. t The Mayor said the matter of having trees topped was receiving attention.
