BOWLING.
CLINTON CLUB. The annual meeting of the Clinton Bowling Club was held in Mr W : -NelMi W. bheddan (president) occupied the chair, and 11 mombers were present. l The Secretary, (Mr W. Nelson, read the following report :-Thc past season, had been a good one and the green had been in good order for play. During the year the committee had the water laid on from the railwav service, and this proved a great'benefit during the dry season experienced. The green had been top-dressed, and the thanks of the club are due to the president, and to Messrs W. liny, \y. Robb, F. Ingpcn, and others for assisting in the work. Members of the dub visited Mutaura, Baldutha, Tnpanui. and Stirling, where they had enjoyable, games, and learns from the two' lirst named clubs played games on the local green. The club was represented , at the champion tournament ut Christchurch by Messrs Bragg and Hay. who I were successful in winning the fourth prize in the doubles. At the Easter tournament at Dunedin the club's representative carried oil' the third prize in the Citizen's match. Mr .). Beattie (vice-president) kindly presented a nice pair of bowls for a lirst-vear's players' match, and theses-ore won by Mr John McDonald after some very close games. During the season two local matches were played, all members taking part. Messrs'llay and Cibb won the lirst, and Messrs *W, Nelson and J. McDonald the second. The thanks of the club are due to the ladies who patronised the matches and kindly provided refreshments. The balance sheet, which was read and adopted, showed the receipts for the year, with balance from last year, to be £I"J lil/'J, and expenditure' CM) Ki/1.1, leaving a credit balance of £f> 2/3, which was considered highly satisfactory.
The following ollicebearers were elected for the ensuing year : President, ]\lr John Beattie ; vice-president, Mr W. Hay ; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Nelson (re-eleeted): auditor, Mr V. A. B. Ingpen ; committee, 'Messrs C'alder, Hell, Kobinson, Streni((iiist ; delegates to S.O. Centre, Messrs H. Ounthorp (Balelutha) and \Y. Slieddan; match committe, Messrs Beattie Hay and Nelson. It was (unanimously resolved that Mr James Garden and Mr Win, Charlton, who had been valued members of the club, be 1 made life members. The decision was received with warm applause. The alteration in the dates of the commencement of the championship tournament from January 17 to December 27 has caused considerable indignation amongst . members of the club, as the alteration probably means the abandoning of lite South Otago tournament which in previous years commenced on Jan 1 or '2. The feeling is that a slight has been put upon the South Otago players, and that the action of the Bunedin Centre does not tend towards fostering the game in South Otago, and is hardly sportsmanlike.
