WEDDINGS.
GRKAD-LOCHHEAD. A vary (jiiiet wedding was celebrated at Te Houka on Monday last, when Miss- Lochhead, daughter of Mr Thus. Lochhead, uas married to Mr Oread, of Christchurch. The bride was given away by tar father. Mr David McLaren, of .Milton, acted as best man, i\nd Miss Mary Lochhead as bride'smaid, while the Rev. Mr Carrie, of Balclutha, tied the nuptial knot. Only a few of the many relatives of the bride were present, but a very pleasant afternoon was spent, and the usual toasts wore proposed, and, with musical honours, heartily carried. The vedding presents were numerous, beautiful, and useful. The bridal ] arty left per motor car for Milton, where they intended joining the ex- |. ress for Dunedin, and later on for t'-.e north.
SMITFi-fATERSON. A largely-attended wedding was celebrated at Jlillend on. Wednesday afternoon, when Mr James K. Smith, of Riilcnd, was married to Miss Margaret Paterson, youngest daughter of Mr Robert Paterson, one of the oldest residents in the Hillend distriet. < I nests were present to the number of i'')OAi.t SO, and the proceedings went i errily from start to finish. The veather was gloriously line, and this e inbled tin ceremony to be of an al fresco a lture, beneath the trees in front of Mr Patcrson's house. Rev, ]\ Ji. Fraser.tied the nuptial knot in a snort, impressive ceremony, tho bride being attended by her sister, Miss Paterson, and the bridegroom t-y Mr .John Raterson, brother of tho bride. After the ceremony was over t >.e guests adjourned to the barn —, which was _ beautifully decorated for" the occasion where the wedding breakfast was set out, the tables literally groaning with the good things I rovided. The speech-making was short and to tho point; Rev. Mr l-Yaser proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom, and later that of the bridesmaid, these being responded, to by the bridegroom and "best man" respectively. Mr Alex. Armstrong, as an old friend, proposed the health of the bride's parents, this being responded to by Mr Robt. Paterson, jun. Mr Jlarry Reid proposed the health of the bridegroom's parents, and this was responded to in fitting terms by Mr Smith, sear. Mr Reid also proposed the health of the Rev Mi Fre.ser.
The bride's dress was of cream bistre, nicely trimmed with silk and insertion, with the orthodox wreath mid veil. Miss Paterson's dress wa.l of cream mmsveiling, lace insertion and silk trimmings ; white velvet hat with feathers. Mrs Paterson was nicely dressed in black, with hat to match. Mrs Smith (mother of the bridegroom) . wore a pretty bronze green dress, with floral toque to match. The bride's going-away dress was of violet velvet; white hat and feathers.
The bridegroom's present to tho bride was a handsome gold brooch, and to the bridesmaid a gold bangle. The happy couple were the recipients of a very largo number of valuable prosonts.
The bridal party left by motor to join the south express at 'Balclutha amid showers of rice, and carried with, them the ueuvliest good wishes of the. large ambnK of Uiwia m«mbl«^
