HOKONUI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) We are getting line growing weather, and the crops arc all looking) Al. Fruit trees, too, are giving r,igns of an abundant harvest—'in manyj cases for the birds, 'lhis is a great) district for apples and cherries. Excellent cider is made from the former 1 fruit, but the birds will make tho cherries suffer. We have lost a very popular resi(lent Mr Coster, who sold his farm to Mr Wilson, his next-door neighbour. When it became known that Mr Cosier was leaving, an energetic, committee were soon elected and made a canvas of the district, and got up a social for the Coster family. A very enjoyable programme was gone through, and the presentation of a silver-cuke-basket to Mrs Coster and a purscf of sovereigns to her husband was) made by Mr McMaster, who, with sev J eral others, spoke of tho esteem in which the family was held. Mr Coster suitably replied, thanking thef people for their kindness to his wife! and himself. There has been about €9O collected' for tho new liall, and a piece of ground has been donated by Mr Wilson, su that it should soon bo" be-
