New South Wales has sent to England during the past two years 50,000 head of poultry, valved afc L 6250. The sales- have been most successful, chickens realising from 6s to 8s per pair, while ducklings showed a profit of 100 per cent. A certain judge who presided over a criminal court was famous as one of the most compassionate men who ever sat upon the bench. His softness of heart, however, did nofc prevent him from doing his duty as a judge. A man who bad been convicted of stealing a small amount was brought into court for sentence. He looked very sad and hopeless, and the Court was much moved by his contrite appearance. " Have you ever been sentenced to imprisonment 1. ' the Judge asked. '• Never ! never !' exclaimed the prisoner, bursting into tears. ' Don't cry, don't cry,' said the Judge consolingly, ' you're going to be now.' The average amount of sickness in human life is nine days out of the year. Ifc has been estimated that steamers are 20 per cent safer than sailing vessels. «_
