GLUTHA MOUNTED RIFLES.

A mounted parade of the company was held on Wednesnay afternoon, at which there were about 37 officers and men present. Colonel Webb and Major Eobin werepnunt for the purpose of putting the captain and two lieutenants through the final stage of their examination, which consisted of practical work.

In the evening the annual inspection of the company was held in M'Kenzie's Hall, the parade state showing 51 present. The men were inspected by the Colonel, the Major afterwards inspecting the arms. The latter were nst found in quite first-class order, and the officers expressed a hope that at next inspection they would be better. Colonel Webb complimented the men on their *eat appearance and on the mounted drill they had gone through in the afternoon, which he thought very creditable indeed.

After the inspection a number of the members of the corps adjourned to the Crown Hotel to supper, and an impromptu smoke concert made a very agreeable finish to the day's work.

The appearance of the men on parade was much enhanced by the white cross-band of the haversack, which relieves the bareness of the tunic. This is to be worn on all fulldress parades.

Arrangements for the annual ball on Friday next are well in hand and everything points to a successful gathering. The committee have appointed three efficient M.C.'s in the persons of Sergt. Wood, and Troopers Sinclair and T. B. Mackay.
