KAITANGATA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

The ninth annual gathering under the, auspices of tho above Society was, hold At Kaitangata on Christmas Day. The weather in the morning was oam,o«rh»t tltfeftt « ening, but aa the day wore on it cleared up, and the afternoon v?a> everything thjit could be wished for* The attendance via* fully up to that of the previous year, while* there was a g(nxd number of entries,, and each event was well contested, T^jS Kjftitang:»ta Handicap elicited considerable in* .terest on the part of the public;. Tha event was well contested, but Mr Straojc succeeded in carrying off the prizfti. which, was a very handsome cup, value HQ 10,4. The arrangements of the Committee were complete throughout, and everything passed off moat successfully, Tho. K«W tangata Brass. Band was present, and much enlivened the proceedings by play-, ing a number of lively airs a$ interval* during the day. We have to thank tho courteous Secretary, Mr Joseph Shoro, for supplying us with all necessary in-i formation. The following is. the list o£ prizes : —

A number of boys' and girls 1 races were, arranged on the ground,

Tn the evening a ooncert and dance iij aid of the funds of the Brass Band wag hold in Gray's Hall, at whioh there was a, orowded attendance, Mr A. N, Hislop presiding. The pi'osraintne was a long and varied one, consisting of solos, duets, comic songs, character songs and dances, and overtures by the Brass Bahd. We have no space to refer to the individual performers, but snflice it to say that one and all wore well received and acquitced themselves very creditably. The accoin* panimonts were tastefully played by Miss, Aitchison. The trophies won during tho day wera presented in the course of thQ evening and handed to their respective winners by Miss Aitchiaqn, each being greeted with loud applause as he Btoppoa forward to receive it. At the conclusion Mr W. M. Shore moved the usual votes, of thanks, after which the haH was pleared, for dancing, which was. kept up till day? light.
