The Clutha Leader. BALCLUTHA : FRIDAY , SEPT. 6, 1878.

We give in this issue a full report of ' the several services in connection with the opening of the hew Presbyterian Church here this week. We feel a large amount of pleasure in being privileged to congratulate the minister, the members of the congregation, and the inhabitants generally upon the successful erection in our township of a building so substantial in its materials, so handsome ih appearance, which is destined to play 'a part so important in the history ,of the present and the succeeding generations in: Balclutha. Our new church is worthy of the • congregation and the district ; it is in every respect complete and appropriate for the sacred purpose for which it has been erected, and will for many years maintain its position as. the chief architectural ornament of Balclutha. We have pleasure also in recording the fact that a very unusual unanimity has prevailed in all the steps that have been necessary in connection with the erection of the building. The opening services^ and the several meetings to celebrate the event' have been thoroughly successful. They have been attended by a large number of members of other congregations and other denominations, who have in words and by their liberal contributions unmistakeably expressed their sympathy with their friends in Balclutha, and their delight in witnessing the progress and prosperity of the cause amongst us. The kindly feeling that has already been engendered amongst the inhabitants of both town and country through the proceedings in connection with tbis building must be productive of beneficial results to all here, and we trust these will be permanent as well as pleasant.
