KAITANGATA LAKE,

On Friday the following gentlemen waited upon the Minister for Lands relative to the Kaitangata Lake : Messrs *H. Clark, C. Anderson, W. Atichison, and M. Morrison.

Mr Clark stated that the settlers, being unable to tackle the work of draining tlie lake, or at least of preventing its overflow, it had been suggested that if the Government would hand over the Lake to the Bruce County Council they would take steps to prevent damage being done to property. The idea was that the water should be kept within summer level. A veiy great deal of damage had been clone by floods.

The Hon. Mr Macandrew said so "far as he could see the matter in its first blush, he would be disposed to agree with them, and vest the Lake in the County Council, and let them utilise it if they could. Mr Clark said he believed the universal feeling in the district was that the Lake should be handed over to the County Council.

The Hon. Mr Macandrew said he fancied an Act of the Legislature would be required. The best plan would be for Mr Clark, as Chairman of the Council, to write to him officially on the matter, and he would get it considered by the Cabinet, and recommend it as far as be nould.
