BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. There were present : Messrs Hogg (in the- chair), Canning, Dunne, Doull, and Macdonald. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment : — Bridge account — Spence and Macfarlane, L2O 18s ; Potter and Doull, Ll6 19s Id ; W. Wilson, Ll 2s ; James Dillon, LlO 17s 6d. Borough Fund account — Potter and Doull, L 2 14s Gd ; day labour (Provan, Battrick, &c), Ll 12s 9d. Messrs Macdonald and Dunne requested permission to retire, when it was resolved to bring the meeting to a close. NOTICES OF MOTION.

Councillor Canning — " That owing to the additional duties to be performed by the day-man — viz., inspector of works, ranger, fire inspector, day-man, poundkeeper, the present remuneration is inadequate to the labour to be performed by him : that his salary be therefore increased to 9s per diem in lieu of Bs."

Councillor Doull — " That Hasborough road be formed and metalled from the bridge to the Corporation quarry."
