Te Houka School.

The side school at Te Houka was examined by the Rev. John M'Ara on Thursday, 21st instant. There was a full .attendance of scholars, but Only a single member of the .Committee. This was dis 7 appointing. Surely a few of the parents might afford sufficient time to visit the school on the day which to the little folks is a red letter one. Their presence would please their children and encourage the teacher. We Avere very much satisfied with the examination. The children gave evidence of careful, painstaking training under the teacher, Mr' Davis-. After dis: t ibuting the prizes, Mr M'Ara expressed his regret — and he was sure he spoke the mind Of. the Committee and parents — at the departure of Mr Davis. That gentleman had, by his kindly, unostentatious manner, endeared himself to old and young throughout the 'district during his short ktay. ' 7 ' ' Bafore dismissing the children, Mr' Davis; addressed, them briefly. He regretted tliat he was to leave them, and hopedvthat. tliey would be as diligent and well-behaved under his successor a*, they had been .while under his care. We understand Mr Davis goes to Dunedin. .
