Danedin, Wednesday s 8 p.m. I George Jones, charged /with arson at Tokomairiro oh the 30th January last, was brought to trial at the Supreme Court to- day. After the case had been heard, the prisoner was discharged. Margaret Collins, charged with infanticide at Tokomairiro, was also" brought up for trial to-day. The case for the prosesction being closed, the Court adjourned. "■'■■ Taranaki, Wednesday. One of the most severe shocks of earth-, quake experienced in the district, occured this morning. • The general supposition that snakes do not exist in New Zealand has been rather rudely disturbed.
