TAPANUI V. SWITZERS.
The return match between tbe respective elevens of Switzerland Tapanui was played on the grounds of the latter on Wednesday, 27th inst., and, as will be seen by the subjoined scores, resulted in a complete victory for the Tapanui team. The Tapanui cricketers are undoubtedly toe strong for the Switzers representative team, as, on the occasion of both matches this season, the former have been victorious. At the same time, in ju ; tice to Switzers it must be noted that tbey were rather unfortunate in the absence from the field of one of two of their reputed " bats." Although defeated however, they were not dipgraced, and they certainly deserve credit for t'beir fielding on Wednesday. Tapanui can muster an eleven from tbe local club, which would fully justify them in challenging an equal number from any up-country township. We do not see why Dunedin alone should represent Otago in the Interprovincial cricket matches with Christchurch, more especially when we have in the country district so msny really good players as Witchell, of Tokomairiro, Downes, of Tuapeka, and many others wbo cou?d be named. Both teams put in an appearance at 11 a.m., and Switzera having won the ' "toss," the Tapanui eleven were sent to the wickets ; v Messrs M'Kellar and Neville being chosen to " break tbe ice" There were about 150 spectators present, and evident interest was taken in the match. In tbe evening the Switzers team were entertained at a supper and ball by the Tapanui club. The supper was served up in host H. N. Simpson's, best style, and after ample justice had been done to the good things provided, and a free exchange of toast and sentiment, the tables were cleared, and dancing was entered into with spirit and kept up till an early hour in the morning.
