The establishment of Bills and Sons, builders, at Laura, has been destroyed by fire. The loss is estimated at £1000. The fire is supposed to have been the work of an incendiary.
A London telegram, received on November 26th, states that Mr John G- >wling, emigration lecturer, died in England, fcom colic, after thirteen days' illness.
Corns-asks sold at lis 3d; new wheat, 4s 6d ; 2000 tons of flour, for delivery in tbe next six months, sold at prices varying from LlO 3s to Lll 2s <>d per ton.
Measles and subsequent diseases greatly prevail at Moonta. There have been seventy deaths this month. The attention of the Board of Health has been directed to the matter. The first sod of the railway between Pirie and Gladstone was turned on November 24th.' The first shipments of new wheat were made from Port. Pirie on the 27th ultimo. Traffic on the Burra railway is delayed by reason of the swarms of locusts on the line. The ground all round about Burra is covered with locusts. The Minister of Justice advocates a system of domestic education for 1"em»le?. Mr A. W, M'Gregor manager of the Mount Gambier Branch, has been appointed Inspector of the National Bank branches in South Australia. The annual meeting of the Bible Society was held last night. The report showed that the expenditure for the year amounted to L 1670.
