Classic sale draws quality yearlings
PA Hamilton The standardbred division of the Te Arohabased John F. Jones Co, Ltd, has drawn top-quality yearlings for the fourth Australasian Classic standardbred yearling sale and third North Island yearling sale at the Wrightsons Karaka Park sales complex in Auckland on February 4.
John F. Jones have sold a host of successful performers through the ring since their inaugural Australasian standardbred sale in 1987. Fro'm the first sale came Vance Morris, Count Westby, Olivant,
Terminating, In Pursuit, McMillan, Showtime Girl and Precocious Hanover, among others. In recent years the likes of Chuin, Ultrasound, Mini’s Man and Bronze Image have lured buyers back to Karaka. The South Island bloodstock consultant, Paul Davies, will be the guest auctioneer and John May, formerly with the New Zealand Harness Racing Conference, will be the pedigree reader. Buyers will have 100 lots to choose from in the Australasian Classic sale, beginning at noon, including 60 colts and 40 fillies.
The North Island yearling sale, beginning at 4.05 p.m., comprises 43 lots, 18 colts and 25 fillies.
The Ohaupo Yarndley Farms (18 lots), Kenwood Stud Cambridge (14) and Herbert Bloodstock Auckland (10) head the list with yearlings on offer in the Australasian Classic sale.
Smooth Fella buyers will be interested in a half-brother (lot 32) to Skipper’s Reign and Supreme Ruler, from Gypsy Reign. Gypsy Reign is a daughter of Vice Reign and a sister to Alba’s Reign and Kiwi Reign.
