Homes sought for kittens

The S.P.C.A. is experiencing its usual end-of-year deluge of homeless kittens and is appealing to anyone who would like to give a kitten a home. The manager of the S.P.C.A.’s Hornby animal home, Mrs Jenny Prattley, said many of the 300 to 400 kittens a month the home received at this|;time of year
were probably the offspring of last year’s homeless kittens. This illustrated the importance of spaying or neutering the kittens, she said. . The rush of “Christmas kittens” started in November and lasted until February. An extra student helper has been taken on this year. In spite of the workload, the S.P.C.A. preferred homeless kit-
tens brought io them rather than dumped, she said. It was illegal to dump kittens, an offence punishable by a $lOOO fine. Mrs Prattley said about 40 kittens were now available to choose from. The S.P.C.A. charged a fee for each animal, representing the cost of a spaying or neutering voucher. h
