Policies approved ‘too hastily’
Some city councillors are concerned at the haste with which they believe policies are being approved. Cr Philip Carter said policy recommendations should not be coming to the council before they were considered by standing committees. Of particular concern last evening were recommendations contained in the report of the city manager, Mr John Gray. These covered policy for the delegation of powers to community boards,
standing committees, staff and other groups. Cr Dennis Rich said it was important that these recommendations be passed so that the city could function. Cr Derek Anderson agreed, saying that most of them had come from a working party or directly from Government legislation. His recommendation that the policies be confirmed at last evening’s meeting, but reviewed early next year, was adopted by the council.
