36 appear on drugs charges

Thirty-six people appeared in the District Court yesterday afternoon on a total of 112 charges arising out of a police undercover operation code-named Leadlight. Four duty solicitors processed the 28 men and eight women who appeared before Judge Hattaway for almost two hours.

Apart from four who were remanded to January, next year, all the accused were remanded,

without pleading, to December 19. Four were remanded in custody to that date. The rest were allowed bail. By far the majority of the charges involved possession, cultivation, and either selling or supplying, cannabis. There were charges of burglary receiving, and stealing property valued at $48,000.

Sergeant Max South appeared for the police.
