Six die in week-end accidents
PA Wellington Six people have died and a small child is reported to be in a critical conditon in hospital after road accidents this week-end. Veronica Ursla Baker, aged 25, died instantly after the collision of a Hillman Hunter car and an articulated truck on Springvale Road, Wanganui, at 10.30 a.m. yesterday. Ms Baker’s one-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat of the car, is in a critical condition in Wellington Hospital. The Wanganui police said the child was not in a harness. She was taken to Wellington by helicopter. The truck driver was uninjured, the police said. On Friday a man died after a head-on crash on Egmont Road, New Plymouth at 9.30 p.m. He was Boyd Arnold Bevan, aged 68. On Saturday on State highway 3 at Otorohanga, a 56-year-old male driver and his 52-year-old woman passenger died in a headon crash with a motorcycle. Phillip Cecil Wright, aged 36, of Manurewa, was killed whent he motor-cycle he was riding struck a traffic island at Howick on Saturday night. The police said a woman pillion passenger suffered minor abrasions and concussion. Yesterday in Kaipara, North Auckland, a 23-year-old woman motor-cycle rider was killed when she struck a curb in Ranfurly Street.
