PA Wellington Persistence by South Pacific leaders for improved radio signals to their region has paid off, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Marshall, said at the commissioning of Radio New Zealand International. The improved shortwave service to the Paci-

fic will start beaming to South Pacific and Pacificrim countries on January 24 through a new 100 kilowatt transmitter. Previously the service used transmitters dating from World War 11. The new service was also launched by the Minister of Broadcasting, Mr Hunt.
