Olympia puts in solid trial

By

DAVID MCCARTHY

The Noble Bijou mare, Olympia, was as impressive as any at the Riccarton Turf Club Trials at Riccarton yesterday. Olympia finished stoutly along the inside to hold out Starky over 800 m in 49.5 in the first of two 800 m heats. The chestnut, trained by Dave and Jan Kerr, ran a faster time than the experienced Newginn in the other heat, although the latter, which looks to be coming up well for Garth Jackson, went to the post easily against lesser-performed opponents. Red Apollo was a comfortable winner of the open 1200 m heat in a smart 1:11.5, but the connections of Invitane were encouraged by the mare's

run for second. Invitane has been stood down from racing because of her barrier manners. She walked into the gates with no problems yesterday and after settling well off the pace loomed up 150 m out before blowing out. Invitane, one of the more talented Canterbury gallopers, must trial once more before being allowed to race again. Results.
