Sri Lankans worry Border
NZPA-AAP Brisbane Sri Lanka’s maligned cricket team has been written off as having no chance in the first team against Australia starting on Friday, but its form has one man worried. The Australian skipper, Allan Border, said he would have preferred the Sri Lankans to have performed better in the lead-in games to the Gabba test. “It will be very hard on us
because no one expects us to lose. “It means there will be a lot more pressure on us and we’ll have to work hard to treat the game as professionally as every other,” he said. “Everyone expects us to give them a hiding no matter what, but we’ll have to play as hard as every other game in the past 12 months,” he said. Border points to a talented,
albeit disappointing, Sri Lankan team roster. “They’ve got a pretty good list but where they fall down is that they haven’t had the chance to play as much test cricket as us. “I rate young Aravinda De Silva very highly and he’s an exciting batsman when he gets going. “I’ve also got a lot of time for players like Arjuna Ranatunga and Graeme Labrooy.”
