Jumbo surgery

Veterinarians in San Diego performed a risky Caesarean section to remove a dead foetus from an elephant who had been pregnant for more than two years. Six veterinarians and three horse surgeons at the San Diego Wild Animal Park spent 5% hours operating on Jean, a 19-year-old, three-tonne Asian elephant whom they believe had been pregnant for more than 730 days. The normal gestation period for elephants is 618 to 648 days. — NZPA-AP.
