Whisky offer

A Scottish distillery is offering investors the ultimate hedge against inflation: a hogshead of whisky. The huge casks, on offer at £1350 ($4900) each, will be delivered in time for the turn of the century celebrations in 2000. Aberlour Distillery in Speyside says each hogshead will produce 360 bottles of 10-year-old Aberlour single malt, at a discount of more than 50 per cent at today’s prices. With both excise duty and tax expected to drop after the completion of the Single European Market in 1992 there could be an added benefit for investors, as neither is payable until delivery in 1999.—NZPA
