Meditation ‘makes women strong’
By CLARE BARRY If her hectic travel schedule is anything to go by, a visiting spiritual ) leader, Dadi Janki, is a ' prime example of the n strength of womanhood ■ she advocates. Aged 74, she visited India, China, Fiji and Australia before arriving in New Zealand on Monday, and will go to Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Japan before returning to her London base in early December. Dadi Janki is a coadministrator of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University, which teaches the principles of Raja Yoga meditation. There are 1500 Raja Yoga centres in 48 coun-
tries throughout the world, and Dadi Janki has been visiting some of these to give lectures and take part in seminars, retreats and conferences. ■ She took part in a seminar for women in Christchurch, where she spoke about how people can become enlightened by the power of silence and meditation. Meditation could increase self-esteem and courage, making women strong and able to influence society and the world, she said. People were ready to learn more about spiritual power, which she described as having a stable mind, unaffected by outside circumstances.
