Meeting of bird lovers in Chch

An international conference on birds will bring between 1200 and 1500 delegates to Christchurch in December, 1990.

The twentieth International Ornithological Congress is one of four events for bird lovers, scientists and nature lovers, collectively known as “The World of Birds — A Southern Perspective,”

an official event of the 1990 Celebrations. , The congress, from December 2 to December 9, 1990, will be co-hosted by the Royal Society of

New Zealand and the New Zealand Ornithological Society, which will be celebrating its fiftieth anniversary year. It will be the first con-

gress held in New Zealand and only the second in the Southern Hemisphere. Among the associated

events will be the twentieth world conference of the International Council for Bird Preservation. The 1.C.8.P. conference will be at Hamilton from November 21 to November 27.

Sandwiched between the two will be the inaugural Pacific Festival of Nature Films, organised by Television New Zealand, in Dunedin.

the fourth event of “The World of Birds” will be “Birdpex ’90,” a stamp exhibition on the theme of birds, in Christchurch during the congress.
