Call to declare ‘ties’
A candidate in the Pegasus ward of the new Christchurch City Council, Mr Bob Andrews, says it is more honest for candidates to state their political affiliations than list themselves as independents if they are not. Mr Andrews, who is a United Citizens candidate for the council and the community board, said people should declare their political ties. He believed some candidates listing themselves as independent had been involved in political groups and should say. so. “Some candidates are making a fuss about community board people being independent. I say all candidates should declare their affiliations rather than pretend to be independent.”
