Prohibition
Sir,—l would like to express my concerns about alcohol consumption in our country. I am not a teetotaller, but wonder what effect there would be on people, the community and our population in general if prohibition were enforced for a term of four years. There is no law against drinking dr how much we consume. There are plenty of peopl» who enjoy drinking to
excess wno also believe they are in control of their minds and bodies. It appears to be proven otherwise. With the introduction of prohibition there would, unfortunately be a great loss of revenue to the Government and, inevitably, a tremendous number of people out of work, but I wonder if it would not create more peace and harmony in the home, workplace, community and, New Zealand-wide, cut down the crime rate and prevent unnecessary accidents. — Yours, etc.,
JILL ALLAN. September 5, 1989.
