Shock for skiers
three parties of skiers at Temple Basin received a nasty surprise when the returned to the ski-field car-park late yesterday. A Suzuki car was stolen from the car-park some time on Friday evening and two other vehicles vandalised with spray paint. The owner of the stolen car did not discover it was missing until late yesterday, said Constable Niall Shepherd, of Otira. It had been recovered in a damaged condition at Rotomanu, between Otira
and Greymouth, after crashing through a wire fence. Constable Shepherd said all three vehicles had been sprayed with "shocking pink” paint from an aerosol can. The letters “K.K.K.” appeared in the graffiti painted more than Im high. The isolated Temple Basin car-park has been a regular target for breakins and vandalism over the ski season, he said. None of the vehicles was badly damaged.
