Man dies in crash

An elderly Christchurch man was killed and another, aged 24 suffered moderate injuries in a head-on collision on the Southern Expressway last evening. The police have withheld the name of the dead man, aged 62, until next of kin have been informed. The name of the injured man, who suffered

head injuries and a broken arm, was also unavailable late last evening. The police said the accident occurred about 7 p.m. at the Curletts Road turn-off to Akaroa. The men were the only occupants of the vehicles. Traffic officers closed the expressway for about half an hour, diverting traffic along Lunns Road.
