$17,000 colt tops sale
PA Auckland The top price of $17,000 was paid for a yearling colt by Vance Hanover from Desitudor at yesterday’s Te Aroha sale conducted by Great Northern Bloodstock. Purchased by Mr A. Sue, of Auckland, the colt is a brother to Samarias, (1:58.7), which looked Derby material last season before a leg injury prompted his retirement to stud. The youngster belongs to a top maternal family that includes many fine pacers, among them the champion mare, Delightful Lady. The prominent harness racing identity, Noel Simpson, who recently
shifted from Sydney to retire in Auckland, paid $15,000 for a yearling colt by Vance Hanover from Kim, an unraced halfsister to the champion racehorse and sire, Noodlum. The Taupaki horseman, Frank Cooney, paid $12,250 to secure a colt by Vance Hanover from Wee Ann, an unraced Lumber Dream mare which is the dam of eight winners, several of them good performers in Australia. The Auckland Trotting Club president, Noel Taylor, paid $B2OO for a colt by Vance Hanover from Dianne Mary, which is related to Auckland Cup winner Gar.con Roux and foryier top two-year-old
filly Roydon Roux. A colt by Vance Hanover from Surge fetched $9750, while a colt by Vance Hanover from Smooth Ginger sold for $9500.
The highest price for a filly, $9OOO, was paid for the daughter of Vance Hanover and the unraced Lordship mare, Lady Royal, the dam of three winners. Twenty-eight yearlings sold for $151,350, an average of $5405. There were four passings. Six two-year-olds were sold for a total of $14,700, an average of ■ $2450, while six broodmares changed hands for $2760, an average price of $4601) I
