Airport buses criticised

Improvements for Christchurch’s airport bus services will be discussed at a meeting between officials of the airport company and the Canterbury United Council.. The lack of advertising and poor co-ordination of bus services between the city and the airport came in for criticism from councillors at a meeting of the United Council yesterday.

The chairman of the council’s regional transport committee, Cr Oscar Alpers, said he would meet airport company representatives to discuss the services available and how to promote them.

The council has also called for details about non-subsidised airport services which were planned after November 1. Council staff told the meeting that bus services in some areas, such as Rangiora, had increased in response to demand. An NZR-City-line bus service between Christchurch, Burnham and Rolleston, which was started six months ago will have its midday and Friday night services cut. Mr Alpers said patronage had not been as high as expected.
