Glenmark wins final
Glenmark won the North Canterbury club rugby grand final, 31-22, in a hard-fought, clean match against Ashley at Rangiora yesterday. The outcome was not decided till the final whistle with Ashley, down 15-6 at half-time, scoring three second-half tries. Glenmark won mainly through the power of its forwards who had the better of the scrums and rucks. The side’s greater experience also showed. Its player of the day was the first five-eighths, Andrew Cooper. For Glenmark, Andrew Cooper, Barry McLeod, Bruce Deans and Craig Wyllie scored tries; Cooper kicked two dropped goals; and Robbie Deans kicked three conversions and one penalty goal. For Ashley, Brian Plaskett, Mark Prosser and Stuart Gold scored tries; Matt Brown kicked two conversions and two penalty goals. £
