Two Australians reach rich final
NZPA-AFP Castle Rock, Colorado Two Australians, Greg Norman and lan Baker-Finch, were among 24 players who qualified for the final round of the unique million-dollar International Golf Tournament at Castle Rock, Colorado, on Saturday. Norman, who was bordering on the cut-off line with six points after 16 holes on the 7503-yard Castle Pines golf club course, eagled the par-five 17 th to finish the day with 11 points. “Now it’s on to the Super Bowl,” Norman said. "The play-offs are over and we’re going to the Super Bowl.” Baker-Finch scraped in with six points to make the final round. An American, Ted Schulz, scored seven birdies to lead the third round with 14 points under the modified stableford scoring system, which awards points for eagles and birdies and subtracts them for scores over par. Jack Nicklaus, who designed the golf course, needed to make a four-foot b°|K P utt at the 18th to
make the cut for the first time in the tournament’s four-year history. Tom Watson, Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw and Chip Beck advanced to the final round, but the casualties included Australians, Wayne Grady and Steve Elkington, and the Americans, Lee Trevino, Craig Stadler and the United States Ryder Cup captain, Ray Floyd.
