Edberg’s wait over

NZPA-Reuter Cincinnati, Ohio The second seed, Stefan Edberg, beat Mats Wilander 7-6, 7-6 in the semi-finals of the A.T.P. Championships yesterday, marking his first victory over his fellow Swede in the $U5602,500 ($NZ1,020,321) tennis event. Edberg, runner-up to Wilander last year, had been unable to beat his compatriot in three previous meetings on the stadium court at Cincinnati where , Wilander has garnered four A.T.P. singles titles. Wilander, who has struggled all year, looked confident early in the match, but after dropping the second set tiebreak 10-8 he was left looking for positive signs. In the final Edberg faces Brad Gilbert (U.S.) who upset the Wimbledon champion, Boris Becker (W. Germany) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
