Zimbabwe post to career diplomat

PA Wellington A career diplomat has been chosen as New Zealand’s next High Commissioner to Zimbabwe. The Ministry of External Relations and Trade’s South/South-east Asia division director, Mr Doug Law, will replace Mr Chris Laidlaw, who was recently named as Race Relations Conciliator. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Marshall, said Mr Law would also be accredited as High Commissioner to Botswana,

Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia. Mr Law's previous posting was as High Commissioner to Western Samoa. He has also served in Singapore, New Delhi, Canberra and Tokyo. Mr Marshall said building on New Zealand’s friendly relations with Africa’s Commonwealth countries and interest in African issues remained a fundamental plank of the . Government’s foreign policy.
