Ski-ing course a success
The “Let’s Go Ski-ing New Zealand” programme, designed to attract beginners to the sport, has been very successful, say Mount Hutt staff.
The ski school supervisor at Mount Hutt, Miss Marion O’Hara, said the programme had attracted 580 first-time skiers to the field in nine days.
Under the New Zealand Ski Council programme, which ended on August 6, beginners could hire equipment and have a lesson for $lO. Miss O’Hara said Mount Hutt would take part in the programme next year, as would sports shops involved in registering people. Mr Anton Coberger, from Coberger’s ski shop said that all places available in the programme in Canterbury were booked and at least half that number again wanted to take part. Mount Dobson, a Canterbury ski-field that offered a programme independent of the council had also been fully booked.
