Stars on trial

Reykjavik and Robinski, two of the Canterbury middle-distance horses likely to hit the highspots in spring racing, both won their heats at the Riccarton Turf Club trials at Riccarton yesterday. Reykjavik, in the hands of Tito Poblete, held Biko over 800 metres with Decree Nisi running on for third. All three were under holds. Reykjavik is some weeks off racing yet but has come up in fine style for Helen Preston. Robinski, likely to be set for the New Zealand Cup held out a late bid from Stormy Weather in his 1200 m heat run in 1:16.2 Robinski was kept down towards the inside in the worst of the going but won well. As with Reykjavik Robinski was nowhere near the end of his tether at the finish. Pieces Of Silver, now with Jan Hay, deadheated with Malak Star in the other open 800 m heat but the former was hard held by Chris Johnson and could have won.
