Riders in book
Excellent co-operation from South Island and visiting trainers enabled the Canterbury Jockey Club to provide a first for the South Island in the racebook on the first day of the National meeting on Saturday.
The book had all but one of the riders for every horse at the meeting, an innovation which was able to be introduced because of a rider notification change from mid-
day Friday to 5 p.m. Thursday. “The co-operation ‘ of trainers was excellent and without that we could not have got such a comprehensive list,” said the C.J.C. racing secretary, Tim Mills. The addition to an already valuable guide to the day’s racing was well received by the public and the club hopes to continue with the innovation.
