New boundaries for fish and game announced
New boundaries for fish and game district authorities were, announced by the Conservation Department this week, ending a two-year wait by acclimiatisation societies.
The South Island’s 11 acclimatisation societies have been reduced to five or six, with a decision yet
to be made whether the Otago, Southland and the Southern Lakes societies will come under one or two authorities. The North Canterbury district has changed little, extending from the Conway River in the north to the catchment area of the Rakaia River in the south. The South Canterbury,
Ashburton and Waitaki Valley districts have amalgamated into one central South Island region. There is a NelsonMarlborough district and a West Coast district. The recommendations will go to Parliament for final approval.
