Rifle sale brings fine
PA Wellington A youth, aged 16, who bought an automatic rifle from a Wellington store allegedly used it later the same day to commit an aggravated robbery in Ngaio. In the District Court at Wellington, a store mana-
ger, Anthony Craig Scoon, pleaded guilty to selling a .22 automatic rifle to an unlicensed person. Judge Rabone fined him $lOOO, the maximum he could impose. The Judge said retailers of firearms had a heavy responsibility to the com-
munity, as demonstrated by the alleged consequences of the young man being sold a rifle and ammunition.. A sentence was needed to deter people from accepting something less thap the strict standards set by the law.
