Soccer profit
The Christchurch United soccer club made a net profit of $9068 for the year ended December 31, its annual shareholders meeting was told this week. The result cut its retained earnings deficit to $13,876. The cost of financing the first team’s Air New Zealand national league campaign last year was $83,283, a significant. increase on the $56,741 it cost in 1987.
Travel costs of $49,148, which were up more than
$ll,OOO, were the biggest single cost. The club had income of $95,903 with match receipts rising more than $6OOO to $37,240, a reflection of the increased crowd support for lan Marshall’s championshipwinning side. The club has now traded in profit for three years and that has prompted the chairman, Malcolm Hinman, to call for the club to obtain its own home ground.
