Man will deny causing death
All charges relating to a road accident last weekend in which an 11-week-old baby died will be denied by the accused his counsel, Mr Peter Toomey, said yesterday. Earnest Junior Tahuhu, aged 23, unemployed, who faces six charges, was remanded in custody to August 22 for a pre-de-positions conference. He appeared in the District Court yesterday before Judge Hay. Last Saturday Tahuhu faced charges of driving while disqualified, failing to stop after an accident, failing to ascertain if anyone had been injured and failing to render assistance to an accident victim. Two further charges were laid yesterday. Police allege that while driving under the influence of alcohol Tahuhu caused the death of Karl Reperuga, and that he caused the death of the infant by carelessly using a motor vehicle while under the influence of
liquor. The alleged offences took place on July 22. THEFT CHARGES Interim suppression of name was granted to a woman facing 10 charges of stealing $8751. Sergeant Pat Creasey said bail was not opposed for the accused. He sought, and was granted, suppression of the name of the complainant organisation. The woman, aged 20, is alleged to have committed the offending between July, 1988, and March, this year. BAIL OPPOSED Bail was strongly opposed for a man facing charges of assault, and resisting police, on July 27. Allan Dean Rudman, aged 21, unemployed, was remanded in custody to August 4. It is alleged that while assaulting Tracey Jeanne Hanson he had in his possesion a knife in circumstances which showed an intention to use it.
