The establishment of this Chair results from the Council’s decision to further expand its teaching, research and extension in Parks, Recreation and Tourism. It is hoped that the appointee can take up duties as early in 1990 as possible. Applicants should hold and advanced degree in an appropriate discipline and have an established record of academic achievement in one or more of the fields covered by parks, recreation and tourism. The appointee will be expected to initiate and develop research in his/her own particular field and to assist in the development of the research activities of the Department and in allied departments as well as leadership in teaching and supervision of courses. The appointee may also be asked to serve as Head of Department. Lincoln College is a University College of the University of Canterbury, with its own Council and Professorial Board. The College will be granted autonomous University status in 1990. The 50 ha campus is 21km south of the City of Christchurch. There are approximately 2000 students on Campus. Christchurch is the third largest city in New Zealand, the largest in the South Island, with a population of approximately 300,000 people and is served by direct international flights from Australia, Asia, the United-States of American and the United Kingdom. Salary will be paid at a step in the range of $NZ76,000 to $NZ95,000 per annum. Salaries are reviewed annually.
