Army camp
Sir,—l was most disturbed to read (July 24) that S66M had been spent on buildings at the army camp at Linton. This camp is for a battalion of 550 soldiers returning from Singapore. What are these soldiers going to do now? For that matter what do the 600-odd soldiers already at Linton do? Is there a war about to start somewhere? From memory, the last war ended nearly 45 years ago. I believe that spending S66M on an army camp is just plain stupidity and a gross waste of taxpayers’ money. I also note that, along with new houses, barracks, shops, etc., a post office has been built. I thought that the Government was in the process of closing post offices, not building them. — Yours, etc., JOHN INKSTER. July 26,1989.
